I really love these small moments of brilliance you expose! Esp when not much is really being said out in the general discourse ... of late.

Ta Jack! for today's inspiring moments.

I look forward to these small moments of inspiration you post, Jack. Esp when the general discourse out there goes so effin flat. [not talking about blogosphere-talking about the lack of motion on getting anything done in DC.]

Ta Jack!

Then there's Mort Sahl's classic quip: "Liberals feel unworthy of their possessions. Conservatives feel they deserve everything they've stolen."

That one is brilliant. Thanks, Stimpson!

Sorry---I accidentally put on the moderation feature for comments---will have to fix that!

Thanks, Gwendolyn. I like to delve into the wisdom of the ages on occasion, and especially to present the liberal Abe Lincoln's comments, since today's ultra-conservative GOP loves to paradoxically call thesmselves the "party of Lincoln." Just another fact they've severely misinterpreted...

@Jack,
This is a great collection of observations. (I'm humbled by the inclusion btw)
Everytime you aggregate one of these collected masterworks of perspectives from different time periods, it inspires me to read more Gandhi, Jefferson, Lincoln, Roosevelt et al.
There seemed to be some very hard thinking going on all over the place at one time in our country and all over the world.
Now policy makers think "twittering" is communication... yet no one today is microblogging statements like the ones you just posted.

Love these, Jack. Isn't it ironic that Abe Lincoln and TR were both Republicans, even though they kicked TR out for his progressive reforms. How far that party has fallen!

SJ,
I think all of us in the blogosphere are glad you are such a voracious reader of such quality material! And it IS too bad that we lack deep, quality thinkers in government today. The signs of this are all around us!

TomCat,
It never ceases to amaze me how the GOP started out as a progressive party, but not even 20 years into their existence became foever damned to the corruption of banks and big business (with the brief exception of the Teddy Roosevelt years). That's why I always laugh when I hear modern-day Repubs talk with reverence about Lincoln and Teddy Roosevelt.
